Inhalation Sedation (Happy Gas)
Gentle nitrous oxide sedation to help anxious or fearful children relax comfortably during treatment.
About Inhalation Sedation (Happy Gas)
Dental anxiety is common among young children. Inhalation sedation, commonly known as 'Happy Gas' or 'Laughing Gas' (Nitrous Oxide & Oxygen), is an extremely safe, effective, and non-invasive method to help nervous children feel calm, relaxed, and at ease during their dental visits.
The child breathes in the sweet-smelling air through a small, soft nosepiece. Within minutes, feelings of worry gently fade into a relaxed, floating sensation. The child remains fully awake, conscious, and able to talk and interact with Dr. Norton throughout the procedure.
Once treatment is complete, pure oxygen is administered for a few minutes, completely reversing the effect so the child leaves the clinic alert and happy with zero residual grogginess.

No. Inhalation sedation is conscious sedation. Your child will remain awake, relaxed, and able to hear and talk to our team.
Are there any side effects?
Nitrous oxide is quickly eliminated from the body within 3β5 minutes after 100% oxygen is given. Very occasionally, mild nausea may occur, which is why we recommend light meals beforehand.
