When Do Baby Teeth Arrive?
Most infants begin teething between 6 to 10 months of age, usually starting with the two lower central incisors. By age 2.5 to 3, all 20 baby teeth will typically have emerged.
- Lower Central Incisors: 6β10 months
- Upper Central Incisors: 8β12 months
- First Molars: 13β19 months
- Canines: 16β22 months
- Second Molars: 25β33 months
Soothing Teething Discomfort
Teething symptoms include drooling, irritability, mild gum swelling, and a desire to chew hard objects. Here are safe methods to help your little one:
- Give a clean, chilled (not frozen) teething ring or cold damp washcloth to chew on.
- Gently massage gums with a clean finger.
- Avoid sugary teething gels or homeopathic tablets containing belladonna.
- Use infant paracetamol or ibuprofen if recommended by your doctor for significant pain.
Cleaning From Day One
Even before teeth appear, wipe your baby's gums twice daily with a clean damp cloth. As soon as the first white tooth emerges, brush twice daily using a small, soft-bristled baby toothbrush and plain water or a tiny smear of fluoride toothpaste as advised by Dr. Norton.
